First, Get to Know Your Motorized Shades

A quick 4-step familiarity guide before you begin the full installation.

Nine steps to install Motorized Shades

Motorized window shades can open in two ways — from bottom to top or from top to bottom.
This installation guide will use the more common bottom-up opening as an example.

    install skylight shades

Step 1: Mark the Mounting Position

Mark the position inside the skylight recess to install the frame.
Ensure the shade can operate smoothly without interference from any handles or other obstructions.

Tip: If your shade includes a solar panel, install it first in a location that receives direct sunlight.

Step 2: Install the Bottom Frame

Place the bottom frame pieces labeled “3” and “4” at the bottom of the window, and secure both ends with screws.
Make sure the labeled side faces inward (toward the room), as shown in the illustration.

The same rule applies to the following steps—keep the labeled side facing indoors.

Step 3: Install the Side Frames

Attach the frame pieces labeled “1” and “4” to the left side of the window, and the pieces labeled “2” and “3” to the right side.

    Secure both sides with screws.

Ensure the numbers on the side frames match the corresponding numbers on the bottom frame, as shown in the illustration.

    Step 4: Install the Shade

Stagger the track sliders on both side frames slightly up and down to simplify installation.

Clip the ends of the shade labeled “1” and “2” onto the sliders of the left and right frames, respectively.

Ensure “1” is on the left and “2” is on the right.

    Step 5: Adjust the Shade

Level the shade and slide it up to the top.

Make sure the shade is securely clipped into the top of both side frames to prevent it from falling.

    Step 6: Install the Motor

Place the motor into the drive housing at the top of the right side frame and secure it in place.

Note: If your shade includes a Smart Bridge, pair the motor with the Smart Bridge first for easier pairing, then install the motor.

    Step 7: Install the Spool

Roll the spool (small shades may not include a spool) until the honeycomb fabric is taut.

Keep the cords parallel and orderly—do not let them cross.

Connect the drive rod and fasten it with screws.

Step 8: Install the T-Shaped Cover

Place the T-shaped cover on top to conceal the motor and spool.

Step 9: Secure the T-Shaped Cover

Fasten the T-shaped cover with screws to complete the installation.
